Anna Nordqvist is a tall (6-0) Swede with a fierce swing. Seaview Golf Club near Atlantic City, a windswept, link-style layout and the shortest course on the LPGA tour, epitomizes small-ball.
Player and course seem an odd match, yet Nordqvist has never finished lower than 15th in the ShopRite seven seasons on tour, Now she is its champion.
Nordqvist fired three straight sub-par rounds (67-69-69) this week. When two-day leader Morgan Pressel faltered in a front nine bogey-double bogey stretch Sunday, it left Nordqvist battling the inexperienced and overmatched, and she cruised from here fifth career win, and third since mid-2014.
Nordqvist finished at 205, eight under par. Unknown Christel Boeljon (world rank No. 254), who had one previous top 50 finish this year (38th), missed a two-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th, allowing Nordqvist a commercial bogey on 18 and a one-shot win. Pressel and Princeton Tiger rookie Kelly Shon tied for third at five under.
