There was no LPGA tour event last weekend, but a European Tour event, the World Ladies’ Championship in Haikou, China, drew a world-class, if top-heavy, field.

Ryu edged the red-hot Inbee Park by shooting 65-69 on the weekend for a 13-under par total of 279. Park shot 71 Sunday.

Suzann Pettersen of Norway and China’s Xiyu Lin both shot 70 to tie for third at 10 under.

Ryu and Park played together Sunday. Park led by three strokes when Ryu double-bogeyed the par-4 seventh, sending her tee shot into black lava rocks and taking a penalty drop. The 24-year-old Ryu responded with three birdies in four holes.

Ryu, 24, won the 2011 U.S. Open while a member of the Korean Tour. She joined the LPGA tour in 2012, won rookie of the year that season, but has won only one other tour event. With this week, she has risen to No. 8 in the world rankings.

Park remains No. 2 in the world behind 17 year-old Lydia Ko, who did not play in China.
