Among the 1,873 entries in the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club are Erica and Madelein Herr of New Hope.

The sisters’ father is Eric Herr, a former Warwick High School athlete who grew up in Lancaster County.

Erica is completing her freshman year at Wake Forest, where she helped the Demon Deacons reach the NCAA championships with a runner-up finish at their NCAA regional at Notre Dame last week.

Erica won PIAA state high-school championships in 2011 and ’12, and played in the 2013 Women’s Open at Sebonack Golf Club on Long Island. She finished eighth, including a final-round 69, in the American Junior Golf Association Rolex Tournament of Champions at Lancaster Country Club in 2013.

Madelein, a senior at Council Rock North High School, is bound for Penn State. Madelein teamed with PIAA champion Brynn Miller, a North Carolina commit, to reach the semifinals of the inaugural U.S.G.A. Amateur Women’s Four-Ball championship last week at Bandon Dunes, Ore.

Both players will have to qualify for the Open in one of 20 sectional qualifiers around the country this month and next.
