L.C.C. caddie gets plum job, hopes for more

Was there a process for choosing who got to caddie for Morgan Pressel at Lancaster Country Club Wednesday?

Not as far as Sean Hennessy knows. All he did was show up for work in the morning as usual.

“When I got out of my car, they told me,” Hennessy said. “I said, let’s go.”’

Hennessy grabbed Pressel’s big, shiny Callaway golf bag and they were off, in a practice round for the U.S. Women’s Open.

Pressel’s regular tour caddie walked along, taking notes and preparing his yardage book for the Open, to be held July 6-12 at L.C.C. Pressel did ask Hennessy for help here and there.

“I gave her some local knowledge,” he said. “Things like when to be above or below the hole, some good landing zones.

“She hit a lot of balls on the tees, took different angles…. it was all to get her comfortable. She hit a ton of good shots.”

It is probable that a few local caddies will get jobs with the pros during Open week. It is even possible that a local looper could get a fairly big-name bag; some tour pros change caddies frequently.

Pressel’s caddie took Hennessy’s phone number. Pressel herself said she’d ask around.

We’ll see.
